This garden had been left rather neglected and a little overgrown with ivy climbing up anything it could and holly bushes taking over the borders. Their brief was to create a space that could be used for entertaining and growing produce as well as creating a space to relax in. We began by removing the existing holly bushes and trimming the ivy to leave an open space. Then we added a circular lawn with a sunken gravel seating area and a corten metal screen to a side of the garden which is overlooked. This leads into a productive area with raised beds and compost heap screened by the pergola and a stone boundry wall. The eye is then drawn to a woodland area with a mix of bamboo, Heuchera, Pulmonaria and Hardy geranium as the plants grow in dappled shade and sunlight.

This one acre garden is set high above the vibrant city of Sheffield and includes wildflower meadows, an orchard, a pond, and a variety of planting areas that are broadly based around ecological niches. It is designed to be an important habitat for wildlife and to support a diverse range of native species throughout the changing seasons.
